A student in
general will fall into one of these three types. A) idiot B) intelligent C) genius.
Interesting point is that, the low level student [idiotic] and the top-level [genius]
are similar to look at. Both will
drop the classes, drop the exams, fail in the exams, will get low grades, will
sit in the last benches, etc.,. These are just some of the similarities in
between the ‘idiotic’ students and the ‘genius’ students. This is like the
similarity between the ‘madman’ and the ‘great philosopher’ – they look alike on
the periphery.
But, the
reasons behind these two types of student activities are totally different. For
example, if the ‘idiotic’ student fails the exam, it is because he/she is not
good at the subject concerned, but if a ‘genius’ student fails the exam then it
is not because he lacks the knowledge. Rather he is too advanced in the
subject. For example, the great mathematician of the modern India – Srinivasa
Ramanujan, failed on his tenth grade, surprisingly in the mathematics exam and
he cleared the other exams. This is not due to his lack of knowledge in math,
but due to his over packed knowledge in the subject. While he was taking the
math exam, he answered the first question correctly using one method and
immediately he got an idea to solve the same problem in a different way and he
did it. Then again he solved the same problem in a different way. He tried all
the possible ways to solve the single problem during the course of the exam
time and came out after the exam was done, but he could solve only ONE problem
in the exam with all the possible solutions. For this the examiner could give
full marks to the single question and not more, unfortunately as the system
will not allow. Consequently, the great man of math failed due to his over flowing
knowledge but, NOT due to lack of subject as in the case of an ‘idiotic’
student.
Another case
is: swami Vivekananda got less marks in his BA degree, it is around 52 percent.
This is not due to his lack of
knowledge, but over knowledge.
Even the
great scientist, the relativist – Albert Einstein lost his entrance exam, but again
this was not due to his lack of knowledge!
Another point
is that: if an ‘idiotic’ student bunks the class, he will waste his time by
doing things like: watching movies, game shows, playing games, hanging with
lover or friend, attending different clubs and the like.
But, if a
genius student takes leave from the class there will have some valid reason.
For example, they will be busy working on their dream project, or researching
on their private discovery, or attending some great lecture or watching a great
scientific voyage on the TV etc., When a ‘genius’ student bunks the class, the
time is invested on some more worthy thing than the class but, it is not wasted
as in the case of a ‘idiotic’ student. An example is, again Albert Einstein. He
was not interested to attend the classes regularly. But, during the time of the
exams he would get the notes of his classmate and would finish the exams.
During the time of the classes he would be busy working on his private study
and discovery.
This article
didn’t touch anything on the second level ‘intelligent’ students, but it will
be brought into light later on.
Enough for
