Is poetry losing its place now?

This is the age of the technology. The modern day has seen the major technological inventions in the history known to the present ‘Man’. I. e., the ‘mind’ is dominating now. Naturally, under the dominance of the mind, the heart will lose its place. The mind has the habit of ‘dividing’ and observing; consequently the mind keeps the heart too separately and examines it; the heart is just a thing to be investigated and the mind will not give any respect to the heart; moreover the ‘mind’ doesn’t know how to love. The mind treats the heart as its subordinate but, not as its equal.

But, the heart will not treat the ‘mind’ as such. The heart treats the mind as its equal. That is why in the ancient days along with the ‘arts’ the sciences too prevailed. The ‘arts’ and ‘sciences’ coexisted side by side – in the ‘heart’ oriented ancient societies.

But, it is not the case, while the ‘mind’ is ruling the world. As it is in the present generation, the mind dominates everything and naturally the others are pushed down in its empire and the ‘heart’ is no exception.

Consequently, everything related with the heart are also pushed down or suppressed as well. The ‘poetry’ is one such creation of the heart and naturally it too is bound to suffer these days. Is the calf loved, where the cow is ill treated?

Majority of the people are ‘mind’ oriented these days. It implies that, in the majority of the people compared to the other organs, the ‘mind’ is working a lot. So, it is natural that something that is not of the mind is not given important these days. Hence, the ‘poetry’ has lost its place these days.

Not only ‘poetry’ but, unfortunately majority of the people these days is not capable of using their ‘heart’ efficiently. That’s why people fail to love deeply. Not only love but, people are unable to hate deeply as well. This is because, ‘love’ and ‘hate’ are after all the opposite extremes of the same thing. So, if one suffers the other too would suffer. If the cradle is going less extent on one side in the other extreme too it couldn’t reach far. This is an inbuilt law of the universe.

These days; people laugh but, it is not from the core of their hearts. Just it is peripheral; from the mouth. This applies to ‘sorrow’ too; people fail to weep from the core of their heart. This is the change in the modern days. Nothing happens from the ‘core of the heart’. Everything is only on the surface for the modern man, love and hate alike – unfortunately. But, in the ancient days people wept from the core of their hearts, loved from the core and consequently their poetry too was from the heart, hence that poetry used to touch deep surfaces of the heart. Naturally, it had value as it had stuff. That’s why the ancient poetry books are still surviving.

But, it is not the case now. In order to appreciate poetry, the faculty of the heart should be much active; consequently the modern people are not capable ‘feeling’ the poetry; that’s why ‘poetry has lost its place in the modern world’.

But, the modern people know a lot about poetry, the technicalities of it because, most of the people now are educated, function from the mind. They know a lot about poetry but, they don’t know poetry. These days, people can think and write bundles of poetry but, they fail to produce the real poetry; heart touching poetry as majority of these poets is far from the heart.

That’s why these days, the days of ‘mind’ – poetry has lost its place considerably but, not completely. This is because, as many people are educated these days compared to the olden days – amongst the educated persons at least few would be ‘heart’ oriented and consequently the ‘poetry’ is not dead, thankfully.
